I have been wearing Kenetrek boots for 8 to 10 years now. Originally, they were my go to for hunting season but since have become my everyday boots. On March 22, 2019 I was in a UTV accident that resulted in a compound fracture of my tibia and fibula on my left leg. I was rushed to Salt Lake City by care flight for emergency surgery. I ended up with 20 screws and three plates in my leg and was sent home a couple days later.
Prior to the accident my husband and I had booked a Yukon Moose hunt with Deuling Stone Outfitters which was scheduled for September 2019. I was really worried about being healed up in time but was determined to go. Initial healing began with non-weight bearing restrictions for a couple months and I began light physical therapy in June. I was finally cleared by the doctor to put weight on my left leg at the end of July. Once the swelling went down enough I was able to put on my Kenetrek Hardscrabbles and start taking a few steps. I only had one month left before the hunt so I wore my boots as often as my foot/leg would allow and worked on building up some strength.
September came fast and we began our journey to the Yukon. After flying to base camp from Whitehorse we had almost a four hour horseback ride to moose camp. Once camp was set we started glassing and checking out the area. My husband had spotted a nice bull moose about 1,000 yards out. Our guide, my husband and I planned our stalk, made our move and got within 230 yards of the bull. The ground was very soft and sponge like which made hiking a little stressful, but I successfully harvested a bull moose on September 6th. Eight days later my husband was able to seal the deal on a nice Yukon moose as well.
We were both extremely happy to be able to go on this adventure and take such beautiful animals. Our Kenetrek boots got us to and from the Yukon with a couple of moose and lots of happy memories. They provided so much support and stability to my bum leg during the moose hunt that I now wear them every day. Our family will soon be hunting for deer in Nevada and Utah, then we will finish off the year with our daughter’s first desert sheep hunt in Nevada. Without doubt, we will all be wearing our Kenetrek boots while new hunting stories are in the making!
